Artist Merch Campaign!
Here at Mis Tacones, art is interwoven into every component of our story. We've wanted to launch some new merch for a while - and in doing so, we wanted to take the opportunity to highlight local artists.
We called out to our community, asking them to submit their own takes on our logo/story/food - and we received such a beautiful response. We selected the first two designs to be featured on future merch, launching later this year - and the final one was designed by Kat, our former employee.
Stay tuned for our merch, launching soon - and we will continue highlighting all of our artist submissions, both on our social channels & at the restaurant!
Our Three Chosen Artist Designs!
Jeremy Jarret -
@jarret_jem
“This design is inspired by Mesoamerican murals, particularly those made by the Mexica/Aztec. Ozomahtli (the monkey) is the 11th day in the Aztec calendar and symbolizes lightheartedness. Spider monkeys, indigenous to Mesoamerica, played an important role in Mexica/Aztec culture. They were associated with pleasure, and with the god of music, dance, song, poetry and games. This monkey is holding an Mis Tacones burrito. This design also includes ears of corn (maize) with Xolotl’s eye, roses to represent Portland, and all of the colors of the progress pride flag.” -Jeremy Jarret
Amanda Russel - @amandarusselart
Amanda Russel is a queer, disabled artist native to the Portland area. She graduated from Pacific NW College of Art in 2012 with a BFA in General Fine Arts, focused on painting and illustration. Kat Monster-
@thekatmonsterart
Kat is a tattoo artist and drag performer currently residing in St. Petersburg, FL. A former employee of Mis Tacones, Kat created a classic rose design for the restaurant inspired by the unforgettable dinners and celebrations shared there. The image of Polo and Carlos filling the space with flowers and beautiful decor for different holidays and events—especially the roses for Valentine’s Day—continues to be at the forefront of Kat’s most cherished memories working at the restaurant.
